The beginning of my summer has been slow and so nice. This season is looking like a time to sit still, save resources, and blah blah. You know how it is— you need time in between the fun to plot your next moves.
So the month of May was fairly uneventful, in a blue and partially sunny kind of way. I kept up with the usual work projects and blogs. Spent morning coffee and pages on the front porch. Got my steps in on long afternoon walks and runs around my neighborhood. Mother’s Day was simple— sweet. It was a day full of flowers. Saw some friends, went to a couple of concerts, camped, and ate lots of good food. Spent the holiday weekend in Chelan and Leavenworth (log entry coming soon). We were down sick for a week but managed to get lots of rest during that time.
As far as hiking goes, I didn’t get on many trails! It was only by Kirk’s curiosity that we happened upon some great routes on Memorial Day Weekend. I’ve got to kick myself into gear to balance my time better and make space for intentional adventures in June.
But May at home was nice— I’m not mad about it. I’m chronically stir-crazy. But taking advantage of the community park, being a regular at my local coffee shops, and leisure reading have been grounding. And I'm about as caught up on sleep as I think I’ll ever be! Here’s a bit more of what I liked this month…
Food Highlight
Okay, I couldn’t wait for the logbook to mention a spot we ate at on Memorial Day Weekend. While in Leavenworth, we grabbed lunch at Javelina. When I tell you this food was mind-bogglingly good, I mean it. We showed up expecting some pretty decent tacos but were wildly surprised by the unique depths of flavors and textures. From the lentils in my fish tacos to the pepita granola in Kirk’s mole chicken bowl— it’s worth going back to try the whole menu. Everything’s house-made, and the tortillas? Perfection. Please eat here, oh my goodness.
Random Goody
This ceramic to-go mug. I actually can’t leave the house without it. I love the color, texture, and size. It’s ceramic and keeps everything to temp all day. I’m a slow coffee sipper, so having this has made me feel like I don’t have to rush and can have my beverage as long as I need. With it being summer now, it’s even more handy!
Wearing
The nonexistent capsule crisis continues. Or at least, I continue to play it out in my head. I want to have a small wardrobe so badly, but I just have so many clothes that I like, it’s tough to narrow down. If anyone has any advice, let me know.
I tried to buy some Reef sneakers on a holiday sale, only to have the order canceled due to stock issues. I took it as a sign that I probably don’t need them. And I’m glad for that because I did snag some nice Brooks Adrenalines in a discount box the other day and am quite happy with them so far! I’m satisfied in the sneaker realm.
Looking Forward To
Farmers markets
You know I love me some markets! I get so inspired by starting a Saturday morning surrounded by a local community, outside, surrounded by natural produce and art.
Weekend trips
I’m hoping to travel light, cheap, and somewhat local this summer when I can! That will likely mean setting up my wagon or tagging along in the Element. A much-needed girls’ trip or two may be in order, as well. Stay tuned.
Intentional mornings
With having control over my days and schedule, I don’t want to fall into the trap of inconsistency. I really thrive with routine most days, so I’m just trying to nail down what that should look like for me. Early morning is my most productive, creative time of day. Balance is key, and I have to be careful not to get super hard on myself if I don’t stick to my routine from time to time. Figuring things out.
Coffee and meals at home
I need to buy beans! And I love to cook, and I need to save money. That’s all, haha.
Reading
I am just about done with Rick Steve’s On the Hippie Trail— which I’ve been savoring every bit of. Next up, I’ll be picking up My First Summer in the Sierra, a quick read from John Muir that I picked up, accordingly, in Yosemite. Excited to be finally getting to it.
Anyone have any good, female travelogue and adventure stories? I’m all ears.
My To-Do List
A million things. Here’s a handful:
Budget revision and battening down the hatches, if you will. I’m envisioning a minimal-spend month or so ahead of me. Can she do it? She’s gonna have to.
Finally get my March film developed.
Quarterlies— love that for me.
Write my Chelan and Leavenworth recap.
Going through my closet piece by piece to see what pieces I’m happy styling and which ones need to go on Depop!
Planning autumn. Yes, yes that’s where my head’s at. That may seem like a ways away, but I’m hoping to be ready to make some changes in my location. Be that travels, or moving— we’ll see. It’s very daunting, especially while trying to hone in on a new career. A million things are swirling through my mind lately, and I’m trying to be productive about it, not paralyzed.

Cheers to June, to summer, and to forward motion!
